If your dream is to become a permanent resident of Canada and enjoy the numerous opportunities this diverse and welcoming nation offers, then the Express Entry system might just be your golden ticket. Designed to expedite the immigration process for skilled workers, the Express Entry system is a key pathway to Canadian permanent residency. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at this efficient and competitive immigration program.

  • What Is Express Entry?
Since 2015, "Express Entry" has been the application management system, used to select candidates in Federal high-skilled programs on the basis of their ability to succeed in the Canadian economy and society over the long term based on factors such as work experience, education, and official language proficiency.
Express Entry Programs traditionally represent the largest economic immigration category in the Immigration Levels Plan. In 2021, 139,459 new permanent residents were admitted through these programs.
The Express Entry system is a points-based application management system used by the Canadian government to select skilled workers for immigration. It is a dynamic and results-driven approach that comprises three main categories:
    • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW): Tailored for individuals with valuable skills and high levels of education.
    • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): Ideal for skilled tradespersons with specific work experience.
    • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Designed for those who have work or study experience in Canada.
It's important to note that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sends category-based invitations where candidates in the Express Entry pool who are eligible for a specific category established by the Minister receive an Invitation To Apply (ITA). It's meant to help meet identified economic goals to fill the gap in available skilled workers in the job market.
The announced categories by the IRCC for 2023 are:
    1. French-language proficiency

    2. Healthcare occupations

    3. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations

    4. Trade occupations

    5. Transport occupations

    6. Agriculture and agri-food occupations

  • How Does It Work?
Express Entry functions on a points-based ranking system. To apply, you create an online profile that highlights your skills, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other relevant factors. Your profile is then assessed, and you're assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on various criteria.
  • Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS):
The CRS score is determined based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and other adaptability factors. Candidates with the highest CRS scores are invited to apply for permanent residency through regular Express Entry draws.
  • Regular Draws:
The Canadian government conducts regular Express Entry draws where a specific number of candidates with the highest CRS scores are invited to apply for permanent residency. If you receive an invitation, you'll have 60 days to submit your application.

  • Provincial Nomination and Job Offers:
Candidates who have a provincial nomination or a valid job offer in Canada receive additional CRS points, increasing their chances of receiving an invitation.

  • Quick Processing Times:
One of the key advantages of the Express Entry system is its rapid processing times. Most applications are processed within six months, making it one of the fastest routes to Canadian permanent residency (visit the IRCC website for the latest updates on Processing Times).
